Craniosacral therapy is gentle and holistic bodywork based on the anatomic structures of the body.
Both the brain and cerebrospinal fluid have an autonomic rhythmic movement. The founder of craniosacral osteopathy, the osteopath William G. Sutherland, called this rhythm the primary respiratory mechanism. The system can be applied to the cerebral membrane, the cranial bones, spinal cord and sacrum, and ultimately to the whole body.
During the treatment the therapist uses light touch to assess the quality of the client’s cranial rhythm as well as the flexibility of the cranial bones and the sacrum. Delicate, subtle manipulation of the bones, the connective tissue and cerebrospinal fluid allows the therapist to release blockages and restore the natural rhythms and flexibility, which in turn stimulates the body’s own powers of self-healing and helps the body to regenerate.
Craniosacral osteopathy can be used to treat migraines, headaches, whiplash, back pain, general tension, as well as the consequences orthodontic treatment or injuries.
The costs for craniosacral therapy is covered from most of the health insurance.
